This will be the third attempt to create a television series based on the world of The Cruel Namesake (1999)

Story

After a humiliating incident at their elite school, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien decide to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Cruel Namesake 2 (2000), which saw Amy Adams replace Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series before being made into a feature film.

The Cruel Namesake (1999) follows

Gellar later reprised her role as Kathryn in 2016 in the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. Aside from Sara Silva, who played CeCe, all of the actors were awfully cast.

I’m not saying they’re not decent actors

To say the acting was below average is an understatement. But the main characters were definitely not suited for these roles.

This isn’t a completely different story

The plot was solid, and while it’s clear that these aren’t the same characters as the original movie, they are loosely based on them. They copied certain scenes from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie.

Lucian was supposed to be a sexy character like Sebastian, but I don’t understand how Zak Burgess was considered the right look and actor for the role

Sara Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job playing the bitch, but like Zak and Lucien’s character, they didn’t come across as “sexy and seductive.” It would help if the show didn’t use the title Cruel Intentions, but regardless, these actors and actresses just weren’t up to par.
