A contemporary tale of seeking fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs

Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who own mineral rights to lease those rights to a company they represent. Essentially, they own the land and get leases to drill for oil and gas.

As foremen on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camp), set up excavating machines, and drill the well itself, especially in remote areas. They are also part repairmen, troubleshooters, and helpers. It’s formulaic television, but written by a writer who will be remembered decades from now as Norman Lear is now. The difference here seems to be geography.

Accuracy issues involving the oil industry?

This is another niche western show and genius marketing combined with great performances from a high quality cast. Apparently not good for the mother-daughter-father-family dynamic? Yes. Does this mean nothing happens the same in real life?

Anyway, it’s dynamic and fun to watch

Thornton is up for the role, even though I read that it wasn’t written for him until the beginning. Larter has the biggest performance and looks phenomenal. Lots of interesting stuff, except the oddity of Demi Moore being in all 10 episodes. I’ve seen all 5 that have aired so far and unless it’s just me, I only remember seeing and hearing her once, in her pool, briefly.

If not, then I’ll wonder what the deal is

Hamm’s character isn’t seen much either, but she’s done well and embodies her character, but Moore isn’t allowed to add anything yet. Maybe it’s written that way and she’ll play a role in later episodes.
